  • We provide psychological services to police officers, firefighters, paramedics, EMTs, dispatchers, corrections officers, military personnel, and their families.

     

    We also support public safety agencies with training, consulting, crisis response, and wellness planning.

  • Yes. All sessions are strictly confidential and protected by law.

     

    We follow all state and federal regulations, including AB-1117 for Peer Support. Exceptions to confidentiality include situations involving immediate risk to self or others, or mandatory reporting (e.g., child or elder abuse).

  • No. You can reach out to us directly for individual, couples, or family therapy. While some services may be coordinated through your department, many of our clients self-refer for completely private support.

  • We offer a wide range of services, including:

    • Pre-employment screenings

    • Fitness-for-duty evaluations

    • Trauma counseling

    • Critical incident debriefings

    • Annual wellness visits

    • Peer support training

    • Couples workshops

    • Group therapy

  • The Annual Wellness Visit is a proactive, confidential check-in—not an evaluation or diagnostic session. It’s designed to reduce stigma, offer education, and give first responders a safe space to talk with a licensed professional. Participation is voluntary, even if attendance is required by your agency.

  • No. Seeking mental health support voluntarily does not jeopardize your employment or your right to carry a firearm. Involuntary psychiatric holds are the exception. We’re here to help you navigate care in a safe, supportive, and career-respecting way.

  • Yes. We work with spouses, significant others, children, and entire families of first responders. We offer couples therapy, family counseling, and specialized groups for spouses of first responders with PTSD.

  • We provide immediate, 24/7 crisis response for departments and individuals after traumatic events, including officer-involved shootings, suicides, line-of-duty deaths, and major incidents.

     

    Our team includes psychologists, peer support counselors, chaplains, and therapy dogs.

  • Yes, we accept workers’ compensation cases. First Responder Psychological Services regularly works with agencies, attorneys, and claims adjusters to provide care under California Workers’ Compensation.

     

    Our clinicians are experienced in treating job-related psychological injuries, including trauma, stress, anxiety, depression, and PTSD stemming from critical incidents or cumulative stress exposure.
